Denis Bernaert, French National Assembly

An interview with MP Denis Bernaert, filmed at the French National Assembly in 2024. A short format that looks simple, but shot in an institutional venue where you choose neither your position, nor your time, nor your light.

A venue you don't rearrange

In a studio, you build the set and the lighting around the subject. At the National Assembly it's the reverse: the venue is a given, access is controlled, and the setup has to fit in without moving anything.

The work then consists of choosing, among the positions actually available, the one that best serves the message, and working with the existing light rather than trying to replace it.

The interviewee's time is the real constraint

On this kind of shoot, the scarce resource isn't technical, it's the time of the person being filmed. The setup must be ready before they arrive, and the shoot must fit inside the window agreed.

That means settling the questions in advance and reducing the rig to essentials: a simple frame that's ready beats an ambitious setup still being installed when the interviewee sits down.
