Aftermovie for the 2025 TGS student regatta, which brought together 20 competing teams. Sports coverage on the water, where positioning is decided before the start because you can no longer move once the race is under way.
At the edge of a pitch, a photographer can move between plays. On a regatta, the vantage point is fixed at the start: once the race is under way, moving takes longer than the race itself.
So everything is decided beforehand. Knowing the course, where the tacks will happen and where the boats will bunch up determines what you'll be able to film, and what you'll have missed for good.
With 20 teams competing, the temptation is to give each of them a place in the edit. That's the surest way to produce a film nobody follows.
So the aftermovie follows the arc of the race rather than the standings: the start, the tension, the decisive moment, the finish. The teams appear in service of that progression, not the other way round.
